Last Summer I had the privledge of capturing stories for Watoto in Uganda with my good friend, Sydney Berry. We had a blast and in 5 days met the most amazing people who shared their story with us to share with the world. Please take some time and go thru the exhibit stories. I promise you will be inspired, touched and encouraged by David, Moses, Justine, Eugene, Barbara and many more. . All I ask is that you continue telling their story.
This year I got to spend my Birthday in Rwanda with the street boys I love and adore so much. I believe in a day when they will no longer live on the streets…when they will each have a home and be able to provide for themselves and their families. Africa New Life is having a massive impact in the lives of these boys and I can’t wait to see where each of them are at in a few years.
So fun……Vogue.com is featuring some pics i took from my trip with Warby Parker to India last month. Check it out! can’t wait to share our stories soon..
Meet Jovanus, a seven-year-old boy from Kageyo, Rwanda who I met fall of 2010 when I came to do stories for Africa New Life. I first met his bright, smiling face walking around the village and noticed that his legs were backwards. I sat with his mother in their home as she explained to me and Natalie how his legs slowly turned this way when he was a baby. Through Africa New Life, he was able to receive life-altering surgery in Uganda on May 18th to fix his legs. Natalie Green, Africa New Life’s US Representative, was able to visit him and see how he was recovering. She captured video of Jovanus learning to walk in therapy, and of him singing one of his favorite songs with her.
8/30/2011 I am here now in Rwanda staying with Africa New Life in Kigali and I couldn’t believe my eyes with Jovanus came walking through the front door yesterday afternoon. He has crutches and is doing therapy for walking…but wow. He has straight legs!!! How incredible! I am so blown away at God’s goodness. A true miracle for Jovanus. I snapped an updated photo of him with lots of smiles and thumbs up… Such a precious boy he is.
Just two weeks ago I was in India with Warby Parker. I have since flown to Ethiopia and i’m back in India again. It’s been a whirlwind. I LOVED capturing photos for Warby Parker and their partner Vision Spring. There is nothing like watching a person see through glasses for the first time. It is just like a miracle to many of them. I put together a few images of my time with Lane Wood, Adam Sjoberg and Warby Parker Founders, Neil Blumenthal and David Gilboa. I can’t wait till we release the stories of all the people we met in India. I bollywood danced with Jeeti in the streets……such a spunky, fun woman!
Adam put together a great BLOG post about our trip as well. And check out the fun video he made of our day in DELHI
In April, I had the pleasure of photographing for Raven + Lily in 3 countries around the globe. Tribeza did a feature article on them… check it out. I can’t wait for their new line of jewelry to launch soon!
